Turn off Hibernate?
I'm trying to find out where this info is held in the registry, it seems that it should be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg If I just try to change the CurrentPowerPolicy key to 3 "Always on" It will change the monitor and hard drive settings, but not affect standby or hibernate in the power options

For some strange reason, my Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop is having issues with going into Standby and Hibernate mode with Kubuntu 7.04. help for Hibernate, standby, turn off or restart please
XP has the options of turning off drives after so long of inactivity, how long should that period be? I set it to never myself. ANY tips are greatly appreciated. If you do decide to turn systems off, its generally best to hibernate than to shut down. That starts noticeably quicker when you turn it on again.

Standby/Power
We are already disabling Hibernate through gpedit, but standby by default,. is 20 minutes no matter who logs in. Right now as a temporary fix, I am making all Domain Users a member of the local power users group, and THEN logging in as each individual user, going to power management and setting standby to "never".

You can make use of the hibernate features in XP in many ways. Start/help and support/type in hibernate and choose which option you'd like to use. I wouldn't mind this difference, but another thing is different: When I select 'Turn off Computer' from the start menu, I now get a graphical window,

It's not really a problem to turn an amp completely off by flipping the on-off switch to off. So what's the harm in taking the extra step? When you want it off, turn it all off at once. How to disable "Standby" key on MS Internet keyboard?
Part of security and efficiency is being able to turn your network huh? If you have admin privileges there'e precious little you can't turn off in Windows. As far as suspend / hibernate, you can do those things in linux. Although most distros don't do a very good job of setting that up by default.
